Squeaky Wheels at Talbot Loop
Переглядів 146Рік тому
This is a short video of Connecticut Streetcar 1160 taking passengers to the Talbot Loop park at the Seashore Trolley Museum on August 27, 2023. I was interested in the issue of wheel noise on the tight curve at the Talbot Loop because as a resident of Ottawa, Canada we have similar issue with our brand new LRT line. I was particularly interested in the solutions to wheel squeaking that Tom Tuc...

Hampton Park Trails Oct 2022
Переглядів 702 роки тому
I made this short video to ask a question regarding the foot trails that exist in Hampton Park, which is in the city of Ottawa, Canada. The question I am asking is if some of these walking and cycling trails are built on, or near the locations of ancient Algonquin and aboriginal trails that were once common in the Ottawa Valley. I invite your opinion on this question. Thank you Michael Kostiuk

On August 1, 2022 I took day trip to Boston from Freeport, Maine via the Amtrak Downeaster. I specifically wanted to see and ride the PCC Trolleys/Light Rail Streetcars on the Mattapan line, which is an extension of the Red Line at Ashmont, and the Heath (E) route on the Green line where it comes out onto the surface at North Eastern University. And then I observed the (E) turning into "Trolley...

    If the Downeaster stops in Haverhill you could hire an Uber or a Lyft to Lowell or if practical take a Merrimack Valley Transit bus instead of going all the way in to North Station Boston and then back out to Lowell.

    Interceptor??? It's the size of a B1B lancer lol

    • @mychael.kostiuk
      @mychael.kostiuk 11 місяців тому

      It was big because it was was built to RCAF specifications. It needed to carry a lot of weapons and needed to fly far and needed to fly fast and needed to fly high. It need to have a big radar. Canadian Air Force doctrine was different than American Air Force doctrine, which had many more airplanes than Canada could afford to build. Therefore an aircraft that was an interceptor built to Canadian specifications had to stay on station for longer periods of time than comparable American fighters would have to. And that's why it was built bigger.

  •  Рік тому

    It's amazing they called it a fighter interceptor when it's huge size was more like an F111 OR A B25 BOMBER

    1st to achieve mach2, to have delta wings, to have after burners..... the Canadian government gave all the Arrow's technologies to the US in exchange of a few radars and missiles..... and since the engineers of Avro didn't have a job anymore, the US "offered" them a job at NASA.... so they went with all their secrets..... other countries didn't have the money to buy the Arrow ? yeah sure... not even the US............ end of the story.

    • @winternow2242
      @winternow2242 Рік тому

      Huh? Airplanes that had reached Mach 2 in America and other countries had flown years before Arrow. Airplanes with delta wings and afterburners were also common around the world before Arrow came along. What technologies did Canada give up to the US?

    The orang train behind the announcer is an Boston L PCC type train that me and my late mother rode on a trip to Boston in 1978. The PCC type L trains in Chicago were shorter and had 2 sets of blinker doors on each side and small oval standee windows above the passenger windows and were painted white on the roof to the window level and dark green below the window to the bottom of the carbody.

    He said that they couldn’t sell them but we know that was a government lie when the program was shut down they were looking for every single piece for sale and isn’t the reason why they destroyed everything is because Canada made an agreement not to make any more military technology the only thing we made since the Avril arrow is the Canadian herb kind of trivial

    Seems that this project as well as our TSR2 both were scuppered due to political pressure by the US. Both amazing planes that we never got to see enter service. Credit to the people who painstakingly made this replica. Incidentally, some unfair comments about the tour guide - how easy is it to carry on explaining about the aircraft when people and their kids are constantly talking loudly?!!

    • @Oldbmwr100rs
      @Oldbmwr100rs Рік тому

      The TSR2 was overbudget and behind in development, and was cancelled by the labour government. The same Labour government who destroyed Britain's motorcycle, aircraft and auto industries. Don't blame the Americans right off. We also had plenty of our own programs cancelled and scrapped, the Northrop flying wing was very much one of them.

    Just like the UK's TSR2. Both projects were cancelled, 'because of money'. Knowing now the things that have happened over the years, and te lies we have been told throughout history, I now believe that that in both cases, there was far more at stake to stop both these projects reaching fulfilment, because both aircraft were ahead of their time and both were e threat to Communism and the balance of power!

  • @stewsretroreviews

    This was originally a CP Rail line. The Canadian train would arrive fro Montréal at the Ottawa station (now Senate), and proceed north under Rideau/Wellington along the locks and cross to Gatineau on Alexandra bridge, then turn left stop at Gatineau, and cross back to Ontario on the bridge leading to the oTrain and would then turn right to Arnprior to get to Vancouver. (this avoided the train from having to back out of the Ottawa station all the way to what is now the 417 where it would head west to Vancouver). The arch between the canal and the Chateau Laurier is where the track passed on its way to the bridge. (so one track went north of the station (now Senate).

    Wow, thanks for sharing. I was there that night. I was on the board of directors with the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Canada (AHFC) who was the organization that was hosting this event. I was also acting as one of the many photographers too. I got to meet not only Jan Zurakowski and Jim Floyd, but so many former Avro/NASA employees in attendance. Owen Maynard, Lou Wise, Don Rogers, Fred Mathews to name a few. I was even sitting next to Bryan Erb for dinner! Jack Woodman passed away in 1987, but his wife Gladys made the trip all the way from Florida just to be there in his honour. I was sitting with her for a bit, and the amount of pilots that came over to tell her how great Jack was, how nice he was, and they miss him, etc. She always smiled, and said, "I know, I miss him too". Again, thanks for posting. Great memories!

The locals respected the dangers and were careful, it's the out of towners that covered the place with graffiti, dumped trash all over the place and caused destruction of residents private property that ended up closing it down for good.

    Diefenbaker was a fool and a American puppet with no vision for the future. If he would have kept the program working, Canada would be a world leader in the aerospace industry with the most advanced aircraft and technology in the world a superpower and the USA couldn't have that happen. They pulled Diefenbakers puppet strings then as they still do today and destroyed Canada's future. The Americans drained Canada's finest engineers and technicians and put them to work for NASA. Black Friday was a sad day for Canada.
